Located in southeastern Spain, near the city of Almeria is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural park. The park covers a land space of 460 km² and is dominantly characterised by it's Volcanic origins.
It is the largest terrestrial-maritime reserve in the European Western Mediterranean Sea and in 1997 it was designated as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
Since 1997, tourism has blossomed in the area and people stay in local hotels on the outskirts of the park, mainly over the summer months to enjoy day trips to the natural beaches.
